CENTREVILLE, VA--After having their 12 game winning streak snapped by the Nationals on Sunday afternoon, the Vienna Senators needed someone to take their frustrations out on.  That is exactly what they did to the Reston Hawks pitching staff on Monday night.  The Senators unloaded on the Hawks for 16 runs and 24 hits on Monday night at Westfield High School.  The Senators scored early and often.

Michael Rivera started the fireworks as the very first batter of the game by hitting a homerun over the right field wall to make the score 1-0.  Guillermo Martinez followed by drawing a walk.  AJ Lamonda then singled and advanced Martinez to second.  During Justin Bunkis’s at bat, Martinez stole third and Lamonda stole second.  Bunkis then singled to score Martinez and make the score 2-0.  Donald Brown followed with a walk to load the bases for Kevin Hansen.  Hansen delivered a single to drive in Lamonda from third and make the score 3-0.  With the bases still loaded, Wes Schirtzinger walked to drive in Bunkis and make the score 4-0.  Two batters later, Scott Scudder singled to drive in Brown and make the score 5-0.  Martinez finished the scoring in the inning by delivering a 2 RBI single up the middle to drive in Hansen and Schirtzinger and make the score 7-0 after one inning of play.

The Senators struck again in the second inning.  Bunkis doubled to start the inning.  Two batters later, Kevin Hansen singled to drive in Bunkis and make the score 8-0.  That was all that the Senators would get in the second.

Reston got on the board in the third inning when TJ Guinan hit a two- run homerun to make the score 8-2.

The Senators registered another big inning in the fourth.  Donald Brown started the rally by reaching with a single.  Brown followed by stealing second during Kevin Hansen’s at-bat.  Hansen then reached on an error by the Reston third baseman, which also advanced Brown to third base.  Schirtzinger then doubled down the left field line to drive in Brown and make the score 9-2.  The double advanced Hansen to third base.  Leighton Autrey followed with a single to drive in Hansen and move Schirtzinger to third base.  Hansen’s run made the score 10-2.  Schirtzinger scored on a Scott Scudder sacrifice fly to make the score 11-2 and end the scoring in the fourth for the Senators.  They were not done though.

The Senators scored three more runs in the sixth inning.  Schirtzinger doubled to start the inning and moved to third on an Autrey single.  Schirtzinger then scored when Scudder singled.  The single also moved Autrey to third base.  Matt Lesyk followed with a single to drive in Autrey and make the score 13-2.  Scudder scored on a Martinez sacrifice fly to make the score 14-2 after six innings.

Reston put another run on the board in the sixth inning when Steve Todd singled in Alan Peake to make the score 14-3.

Vienna tacked on a single run in the eighth inning when Bunkis doubled to drive in Matt Lesyk from second base to make the score 15-3.

TJ Guinan hit a homerun in the eighth for Reston to make the score 15-4.

The Senators finished their scoring in the ninth when Martinez singled to drive in Autrey from third base and make the score 16-4.

This was the biggest offensive outburst for the Senators this season.  They collected the most hits in the league for a single game this season.  Bunkis led the charge with five hits while Lamonda, Hansen, and Scudder added three hits apiece.  Martinez led the team with four RBIs.  The Senators move to 15-3 overall and have Tuesday off.  They return to action on Wednesday night when they take on the Fairfax Nationals at Waters Field.  The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.  Come on out and enjoy the atmosphere at Waters Field while cheering on your Vienna Senators!
