HERNDON, VA—When a team is on a roll, it is hard to stop thwart its momentum.  That is exactly the situation with the Vienna Senators right now.  The Senators continued their winning ways with a 6-1 victory over the Fairfax Nationals Tuesday night at Herndon High School.  The win was the ninth straight for the Senators, bringing their record to 11-2 on the season.

The Senators started the scoring in the third inning when Wes Schirtzinger singled in Will Bussey, who had reached base with a bunt single.  Bussey advanced to second on an errant throw by the National third baseman and reached third on a passed ball, allowing Schirtzinger to drive him in.

The Senators kept rolling in the fourth inning when Guillermo Martinez sparked a two out rally by singling into left field.  Kevin Hansen followed Martinez with another single, moving Martinez to second base.  Will Bussey then hit a third consecutive single to score Martinez and advance Hansen to third base.  The Senators then called for a delayed steal in which Bussey got caught in a rundown between first and second base and allowed Hansen to score from third.  Bussey got tagged out on the play to end the inning, but the damage was done.  At the end of the fourth, the score was 3-0.

New Senator Scott Scudder flexed his muscles in the fifth inning when he homered over the left field wall in just his second at bat for the Senators, making the score 4-0.

The Senators scored two more runs in the sixth inning as Justin Bunkis hit his third homerun of the year, a solo shot, to make the score 5-0.  Wes Schirtzinger finished off the Senator attack when he singled in AJ Lamonda to make the score 6-0.

The Nationals got a run across the plate in the seventh inning, but did not really mount a threat after that.  Billy Tinsley got the win for the Senators by pitching seven strong innings and giving up one run while striking out four.  Will Naylor made his first appearance on the mound and shut the door on the Nationals by pitching two shutout innings.

The Senators return home on Wednesday night against the Reston Hawks at Waters Field.  The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m., so come on out and support the Senators under the trees at Waters Field
