VIENNA, VA—The Senator coaching staff has chosen second baseman Michael Rivera as this week’s Senator of the week.  This past week, Rivera went 7-22 with four runs scored, and 2 RBIs as the team’s leadoff hitter.  Like Guillermo Martinez, Rivera’s offensive numbers only tell one half of the story. Every game, he contributes amazing plays defensively while making every routine play look easy.

For the season, Rivera is hitting .340 with 6 RBIs while registering .365 on base percentage.  His numbers have helped the Senators clinch the first half title and stay atop the standings in the second half.

Rivera, a junior at Tennessee this past season, hit .331 while starting every game for the Volunteers.  He also added 12 doubles, one homerun, and 42 RBIs while helping the Volunteers advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.  He hit his only homerun in the Super Regional against Georgia Tech to help the Volunteers advance to the College World Series.

Rivera played shortstop and second base at Miami Senior High and was named Mr. Offense three times while winning three team-batting titles.  He hit .485 with 11 doubles, four homeruns, and 38 RBIs during his senior season.  He was named MVP of the H.I.T. and to the Westminster National Classic All-Tournament Team.  His high school coach was Gus Miranda.
